Durga Puja, also known as Durgotsava, or Sharadotsav is an annual Hindu festival in South
Asia celebrating the worship of the Hindu goddess Durga. It refers to every six days
observed such as Mahalaya, Shashthi, Maha Saptami, Maha Ashtami, Maha Nabami and
Vijayadashami. The Durga Puja festival is celebrated from the sixth to the tenth day of the
light moon docks in the Hindu calendar month Ashvin. This period falls in the two weeks that
correspond to the festival called Devi Paksha. Devi Paksha is preceded by Mahalaya, the
last day of the previous two weeks, Pitri Paksha, and ended in Kojagori Lokkhi Puja.
