Deepika Padukone, who will be considered gangster Sapna Didi in her next film, says the lady's "incredible" story has encouraged her to record the project. After describing the role of Rani Padmavati in "Padmaavat", Deepika will present the mafia queen in Vishal Bhardwaj's next film.

The film is based on the life and times of Ashraf Khan, popularly known as Sapna Didi, who was a dreaded name in the underworld.

According to media reports, Khan was married to a man who worked with Don Dawood Ibrahim. Apparently, after Dawood had her husband murdered at a police meeting, she decided to avenge her death.

Khan joined Hussaid Ustara, a man who hated Dawood, and also had a short stay as a police informant to get him off.

She would have devised a plan to kill Dawood at Sharjah Cricket Stadium, but it turned out that the notorious underground world did not order her to be murdered in the most ruthless way.

Produced by Kriarj Entertainment by Prernaa Arora, the film is an adaptation of S Hussain Zaidi's book "Mafia Queens of Mumbai".


Deepika said she is excited about working on the film, which also includes her partner "Piku" Irrfan Khan. "I will start preparing the Vishal film soon, workshops are planned and physical preparatory work should also be done," she added.

The film's recordings are expected to begin next month in Nepal.

The film will appear in the cinema by the end of the year.
